Trenholm Family: Jaimason's Birthday Party

Jaimason celebrated his 7th birthday on September 18th! This year, he wanted to have a Book Party because he loves reading and books so much.

He was so excited about the theme, and I was, too. I loved that it was different and unique and purely represented him!

The invitations were designed to look like books (of course). The cover said "A Bookworm Birthday Bash by Jaimason Trenholm" And inside was a story:

CHAPTER 1

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jaimason.

He loved to read!

He liked to read all kinds of different books.

He loved them so much that when he turned 7, he wanted all his friends to celebrate with him at a

Bookworm Birthday Bash!

CHAPTER 2

He was very excited about his birthday party, so he got to work making plans right away.

First, he made the guest list....and you were on it!

Then, he invited all of the friends on his list to come to the Teravista Clubhouse on

Saturday, September 17 from

12:30 to 2:00 pm and told them to have their moms RSVP (regrets only) to his mom at

512-***-****.

He also asked them to

come dressed as one of their

favorite book characters.

CHAPTER 3

During the days leading up to the party, Jaimason and his mom collected many of his favorite books to share with his friends, and planned some great games and activities to entertain them.

They also had fun making a delicious birthday cake to enjoy.

CHAPTER 4

Finally all of the preparations were complete, and the day of the party came. The guests arrived and had lots of fun playing party games, showing off their costumes, and making fun crafts. They sang the birthday song and ate delicious vanilla cake with lots of frosting and creamy cold ice cream.

Everyone had a great time!!

There were pictures to accompany each page, but I can't put them here on the blog unfortunately. Jaimason wrote most of the story, picked the pictures, put the pages together, and designed the front cover, too. He addressed all of them, and we personally walked each invitation to each guests' house. It was very fun!

He wanted a cake that looked like an open book, so......he got a cake that (mostly) looked like an open book. I made some of his favorite book characters out of candy melts and added them standing up to give the cake more dimension. I am the farthest thing from a professional cake decorator and we own very few cake decorating tools, so we ran into a lot of snags, but he was happy with it, and that's all that matters, right?

As it said in the invitations, he invited everyone to dress up as one of their favorite book characters. He wanted to be Skippyjon Jones, a cute little Siamese cat who thinks he's a chihuahua. He particularly wanted to be Skippyjon from the first book, when he dresses up as a masked sword-fighter.

At the party, as the kids arrived, they decorated personalized bookmarks with their names on them.

After that, we played a Book Bingo scavenger hunt game. The kids were divided into teams and they had to search through books for different things listen on their Bingo cards, such as:

A book with 10 chapters
A book with the word Jones in the title
A book about a llama

We then got to enjoy the birthday cake and ice cream. It was a vanilla cake served with Neapolitan ice cream and juice with "bookworms" in it.

Next on the agenda: another game! This game related to a part in a book from one of Jaimason's favorite book series, Elephant and Piggie. Since I didn't know if all the kids had read it, I first read them the story so they'd be familiar with it.

The game was a relay. The kids had to put on different silly articles of clothing, run to the other end of the room, and take them off for the next team member to put on. It was pretty comical.

I had other games planned, too, but the kids just wanted to play with balloons after that, which was just fine with me!

Jaimason has some really great friends, and they picked out the perfect presents for him. He got a GI Joe action figure, Star Wars book, Star Wars lego set, Star Wars kite, Lego game, 3 other books, a Skyball basketball set, and a ceramic paint set. All his loves!

Maleah was pretty fussy all day, because the party was right during her nap time for the day (it changes every day!) In almost every single picture of me, I'm holding her while trying to do everything else one-handed....which isn't all that different from any other day, I guess!
