Texas State Fair

 This year we had a great, fun-filled, relaxing, sunny, awesome beach camping trip planned with some friends. 4 days before we were to leave, they ALL bailed! So, instead of dragging our tails between our legs, we opted for plan B...the Texas State Fair!

The Texas State Fair is one of the largest in the country (of course), and ranked in the top 10 as far as state fairs go, so after 4 summers living here, we decided to go.

We spent a long day of driving to Dallas, checking into a hotel, riding trains, and traipsing around the humongous fair, but it was a fun experience!

Jaimason won this little blue dog by playing a ridiculously overpriced game, and Maleah latched onto it. He let her play with it, even though he was very proud of the thing. He's a good big brother! 

 

We watched a bird show, walked through a car show, witnessed a water and fireworks show, and watched this show...a BMX stunt show (how many times can I say 'show'?) It was pretty awesome. It's truly amazing what those guys can do on their bikes. Definitely stuff I won't be trying anytime soon!

 Just hours before we arrived at the fair, Big Tex, the giant 52-foot tall 60-year-old iconic cowboy burned to the ground, so we unfortunately didn't get to see the famous guy, but I guess this carved pumpkin of Big Tex was the next best thing.

 The thing the Texas State Fair is most famous for is their assortment of fried food. They had everything imaginable, from fried bubble gum to fried Kool-Aid to fried picnics on a stick....to fried BUTTER! We tried a few of the offerings, including fried jambalaya, fried pizza, and fried pecan pie. And, of course, we had a famous Corny Dog. Most of it was good, except the pizza wasn't our favorite. They were all out of fried butter, which leads me to believe it's good, but I can't imagine what in the world it tastes like. I think our hearts and arteries are thanking us for not indulging in that little delicacy!

To end the trip to Dallas, we got to visit our friend from high school and see her new little baby, which was such a treat! Thanks, Alissa, for letting us come see you!
