I took the kids to Oregon the past 2 weeks to visit my family and see my new niece. We had a blast, despite the fact that it was FRIGID a good chunk of the time we were there. It's too bad it was rainy and cold, because we were really looking forward to a respite from the heat....but not that much!
SEATTLE
OREGON COAST/DRIFT CREEK FALLS
From left: brother Qile, Shaunelle, Maleah, Jaimason, cousin Ben, cousin Josh, mom Wendy, and sister Brynn
The coast itself was really cold, but we managed to have a fun time anyway! Jaimason had a blast running from the waves, and getting caught by a few, too! He built sand castles the waves could knock down, and of course we looked in the tide pools. There weren't a whole lot of fun animals in them this time, but that's ok.

Maleah didn't like the beach as much. She was pretty cold. However, at one point, I took her out of her blanket for a few minutes to stand in the sand, and she was enthralled by it. She kept trying to grab it, but I really didn't want it all over her hands...she would have eaten it!
OREGON ZOO
On the way to the coast, we stopped at a place called Drift Creek Falls to hike for a while. There was a long suspension bridge over the falls which was really fun to stand on...and a little unnerving! Maleah loved the hike and talked (growled) the whole way. People who passed kept commenting on how funny and cute she was.
Family picture time...sans Dad
The next day we visited the Oregon Zoo in Portland. It was a great day, the weather was fairly warm, and the Oregon Zoo is just beautiful.
Brynn with Phoenix and Qile with Maleah
Jaimason with aunt Summer...yee-haw!
Cousin Ben and Jaimason...look out for the dinosaur right behind you!

Look at those cute kids in the eagle's nest! And Maleah was enraptured by the fishies.
PARK TIME
We had an opportunity to go to this fun park that was just recently built by my mom's house. It had a lot of neat playground toys I'd never seen before, like this skateboard half-pipe:
We played 500 with the Frisbee, which was very comical. Evidently Jaimason, my sister Brynn, and me are all afraid of the frisbee, so each time it came to us, we'd all close our eyes and reach into mid-air blindly, hoping to catch it! My brother Jantsen came along with us, which was really nice, because we didn't get a whole lot of time to spend with him...he's a busy working-man.
FAMILY TIME
We spent some time out at my late Grandma and Grandpa's ranch house with my aunt and uncle, my cousins, and their kids riding the Gator, petting horses, and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.

HORSE RIDING
We went to see my cousin Shayla's horses that she had just gotten, and the kids got to feed them and ride them. Jaimason thought he was hot stuff, sitting atop that horse. It was his first time riding, and he loved it! It was Maleah's first time, too, but I'm not so sure she loved it as much as Jaimason. However, she did love to pet them!
It's a bummer this picture is so dark, because the look of joy on his face is priceless!
Maleah on her first horse...doesn't she look thrilled? (That's Aunt Shawnee with her)
Through a series of unfortunate events, we missed our flight home (but our bags did not. They left without us...meaning no diapers, no wipes, no clothes, no jammies, no makeup, no toothbrush...nothing!). Luckily, my cousin Shayla and her husband Bryan live not too far from the airport. They were kind enough to let us stay at their house for the night until the next flight to Austin the following morning. What was even luckier was that they had all my other cousins and their families up to their house for a BBQ, so we got to spend more time with all of them.
