Sweet Baby Bird

On Saturday, Ben came across a baby bird while he was mowing the lawn huddled under our fence. He wasn't moving and we weren't sure if he w
as hurt, so we put him in a box to rehabilitate him and check for injuries.

Jaimason got to feed him some water, and after we did that, he perked right up. He must have fallen out of his nest and was just hot and thirsty. Thankfully, he had no injuries! We tried to feed him some food, too, but he wasn't having it. So we decided to let his mom take care of feeding him. By this time, she was watching from a distance and chirping. We could tell it was her, because Baby was chirping back in response. Up until then, he'd been stone silent.

We fashioned a makeshift nest out of a plastic container and twigs and leaves and attached it to the tree in our backyard....and then we left.As soon as we were back inside, Mom came to the rescue. We watched from the window as she hunted for food and brought it to Baby to eat. It was VERY cool to watch. It's amazing how fast she could find worms and bugs and return to the nest to drop it in his beak.
Mother birds return the nest about 400 times per day to feed their young. I'm sure glad we didn't have to keep feeding him!
