Happy Birthday, 5-Year-Old!

Jaimason turned 5 on Friday, September 18. Ben and I were so excited for this day because he has been telling us for months that once he turns 5, he'll sleep in. And once he turns 5, he'll never be naughty again. And once he's 5, he'll go to bed good. So, Thursday night, we told him we were excited for him to be a changed boy, and guess what? When he woke up the next morning, he was!...for the day.

He woke up in the morning to a fully decorated bedroom, complete with streamers, balloons, and posters. Scared him a little, but he loved it. I woke up super early to make him his favorite breakfast before school--pancakes and bacon. I cut them into little guys, and I told him they were 5-year-old boys, so when he ate them, he'd be a five-year-old boy! There were even 5 of them. He thought that was pretty neat. He had orange milk, too...his favorite color. Right before school, Ben and I couldn't contain our excitement any longer...we just had to let him open our present to him: a pirate ship, complete with working anchor, cannons, and sails. He's been dying for one, and we found a reasonably priced one THE DAY BEFORE his birthday. Talk about a close call!

He got to bring treats to school to share with the class, and let me tell you, this was the highlight of his day! They were so good to him in school. They sang to him, gave him a crown to wear, signed a card for him, and even put out the birthday center, so they could pretend to have a party with cake and decorations and candles. He had a blast!

After school was pretty uneventful. Ben had to work a long day in Austin, so Jaimason and I hung out all day together, playing with his pirate ship and taking phone calls from loving family members and friends. Thanks, by the way, to everyone who called to wish him a happy birthday! He thought it was very special that he got calls just for him.

Our awesome neighbor, John, let Jaimason take his sweet dog for a walk. Boy, was that fun! When we dropped the dog back at John's, Jaimason said "Thanks! That was a really special birthday treat!"

Finally, at almost 9:00, daddy got home! Obviously, it was way too late to go out for dinner, so we had chicken enchiladas and ice cream cake at home instead. Jaimason was perfectly happy with that. He couldn't wish for a better meal than that!

He opened presents after dinner. He got:a guitar, (this was taken with the phone camera, so excuse the blurriness)
some Mega Bloks Cars that he's been collecting (pictured at bottom), a Space Fish Tank that makes it look like the fish is swimming in space with a UFO and a rocket,

and Grandma Trenholm sewed him a reversible cape...now he doesn't have to tie a blanket around his neck anymore (he's been doing that since he was a baby).
It was a great day, he says! The birthday party is next weekend, so we'll post pictures from that later. But in the meantime, let's take a look back at Jaimason's past birthdays.

First Birthday:

Second birthday:

Third birthday:

Fourth birthday:

Fifth birthday:

You don't really realize how fast they're growing up until you look back at pictures and realize it's waaaaay too fast! But we're glad we've had "all" these great years with this sweet boy. He's a very caring, extremely smart (maybe too smart), rambunctious, full of life boy whom we love very much! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUD!
