Cirque Du Soleil

For my birthday, Ben surprised me and took me to Las Vegas to see Cirque Du Soleil's performance of "O". WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! I love, love, loved it! The show was amazing, the actors/actresses were so talented, the music was good. It was really a fun night.

The show is about....well, I don't really know what it was about. There was so much stuff going on, it was hard to follow everything. But there were elements in it everyone would love: romance, comedy, synchronized swimmers, acrobatics, fire dancers, singers, high divers, contortionists. All the music was live, and there were boxes on the side of the theatre that you could see the orchestra and the singers. Even the singers were dressed up! The coolest part about this show is that it is a water stage, but it can turn into a regular stage in an instant and vice-versa. So sometimes you'd be watching the show and they'd be swimming or something, and then all of a sudden someone would come out and run across the stage where there was supposed to be water! It wasn't an illusion, just a cool stage.

I cannot say enough good about this show! The performers were so unbelievably graceful and daring. At one point in the show, 4 men went up into the rafters, and attached themselves to each other, and then high-dived (or is it high-dove?) into the water below. The amazing thing was the pool was only about 5 feet across in any direction, and there were already performers in the water! I thought they were going to miss the pool indefinitely! But they didn't. It was incredible.

I could go on and on about this show, but the bottom line is: if you ever have a chance to see it, you HAVE to! It's the experience of a lifetime!

We stayed the night in the Bellagio, where the show was. I have never been in a nicer hotel room, nor do I ever think I will again. It was beautiful! I felt like a million bucks in that room. There were automatic curtains, an iPod dock, granite countertops, a marble entryway, and a jacuzzi tub. Here are a few pictures:

After the show, we went to take in some sights. Las Vegas sure is alive in the middle of the night! We definitely felt like outsiders there. For one, we were not carrying a 110 oz. beer around with us. And for two, we were actually wearing clothes (crazy thought)! It was fun to be able to be out at night without Jaimason, though. We didn't do anything that spectacular, we just went to Caesar's Palace and looked around, and visited MGM Grand. There wasn't a lot of time to do things, and these old farts quickly tired, but it was a fun night!

We got a good night's sleep (it's a wonder how well you sleep when you're not on a 30-year-old bed!), and in the morning, before we checked out, we played a few penny slots. Ben double his money!.... and then lost it all. Isn't that typical?! There goes a dollar!

It was a really fun trip! We got to spend a night with Ben's uncle and aunt and their brand new baby, Max, in St. George before we went on to Las Vegas. We also spent time with Aunt Kathy and Grandma Trenholm as well. It was so good to see them. We don't get a lot of time to chat with them. The whole trip was pure bliss (except for the time Shaunelle forgot her purse in St. George and we didn't realize until we were about 40 minutes outside of St. George. We had to go back for it because it had the camera in it, and consequently didn't have much time for dinner before the show! Oh well, it's to be expected with her).
