Burned Alive!...well, almost

So here's a story for you....

Once upon a time (on Friday), we went to our ward campout in Nebo Loop just up Payson Canyon about 30 miles from us. We ate foil dinners, went on a nature walk, played "Chubby Bunny" and "Concentration," enjoyed Dutch Oven peach cobbler, and participated in a campfire sing-along. We had a great time, and about 11:30 we were exhausted and decided to go to bed. We get a wound-up Jaimason to sleep, and just as Ben and I are drifting off to sleep at about midnight, we see a bright flashlight shining in the top of our tent into our eyes.

"Did you hear?" asks Brother Phipps.

"No, what's up?" we grumble.

"The fire is coming closer. We need to evacuate. You don't need to really rush, but pack up and then we all have to take a back way out of here." he answers.

So we pack. In the pitch black. In our pajamas. With only a little mini Mag-Lite to light our way. Luckily, Jaimason stays asleep as we load him into the car and take down our tent, and then proceed to help larger families with their packing.

When everybody is ready to leave, we pile into cars and take the back way down the mountain (which also happens to be the long way). Two hours later, we're home safe in our beds.

THE END.

Actually, to tell the truth, it was one of our better camping experiences. We had a great time hanging with the ward family, and we'll have lasting memories, that's for sure!

what an adventure! sounds like you had fun, even though the fire put a bit of a damper on the camping part.
